SHORT & SWEET

Screening: every Tuesday - doors at 1845, screenings at 1930
Entry: free

A combination of increasingly popular world and independent cinema, alongside the Hollywood machine and internet sites like YouTube means these are changing times for film. Film clubs, good quality independent cinemas, and interactive movie evenings are happening all over London and the world beyond. These help connect directors, film makers and fans, all sharing their love for all things celluloid - whether an epic or short film, funny or serious, world cinema or animation. That’s what inspired Julia, the creative thought and drive behind Short & Sweet, to set up this weekly event.

That’s why we like having Short and Sweet here, it’s a free entry film night for everyone - from cinema afficiandos to those who just want to watch something with a little bit of thought behind it, making full use of AKA’s cinema sized screen and our wicked sound system. If you’ve any interest in film we’d recommend coming along. And what’s more, unlike in conventional cinema surroundings, at AKA you can tuck into a delicious Pizza Express and a long cool drink while you’re watching.

Recent work has been from established directors such as Michel Gondry, Rob Sanders, John Hardwick, Ravi Kumar, Sean Weinsteim, Daniel Mulloy, Jason Reitman, Jonathan Glazer, Kim Gherig, Ashmir Kumar Minivegas, Keith Bearden, alongside undiscovered talent such as Ian Mackinnon, James Healy, Will Sinclair, Claire Harvey, Rowena True and Kip Hall.

See our 'What's On' section for details of the next Short & Sweet event.
