Blind Tiger at AKA - vamping up your Friday nights
Blind Tiger is inspired by 1920s Speakeasies. The underground, decadent nature of these parties gave the ‘Roaring Twenties’ its nickname. AKA’s Fridays are a nod back to those heady times – with secret passwords; a clandestine entrance to the venue; popular cocktails of the day, and the venue brought alive with 1920s visuals and décor.
We have an excellent rosta of resident DJ's for the night, joined by regular guests, playing everyone's favourite records to make you swing onto the dancefloor. Aldo Vanucci, who has produced with Fat Boy Slim and remixed everyone from the Jackson 5 to Queen, is an obsessive vinyl junkie with so many records he's had to move into the garden shed to make room for them all. The Player's mash-up meister Jim Wood can flit between genres faster than Lewis Hamilton, and the greatest-thing-to-come-out-of-Sunderland EVER, Electric Shakedown, could recite the Top 40 every week for the last 30 years (backwards). The perfect people to head up our Speakeasy Soundsystem.
We also have entertainment from leading Burlesque performers - including aerial rope performances high above the dancefloors, fan dances on the bar, burlesque fire eating, and more. Email below to find out when the next show is.
Blind Tiger is all about getting your friends together, reserving a table, ordering food, enjoying the range of drinks. It's about listening to classic music that makes you smile or gets you on the dancefloor, in stylish surroundings, with like-minded people.
Blind Tiger features Burlesque performers each week - think cheeky and teasing rather than raunchy – that’s what 1920s-style burlesque was all about. Put some vintage glamour into your weekend!
