FEATURED SPIRIT

ELEMENTS 8

Elements 8 rum is a recently launched ‘super premium’ rum brand that far surpasses the quality, purity and smoothness of conventional brands .The rum is the result of eight individual elements that balance each other out:

[e]1 - The environment of where the rum is made
[e]2 - The water used
[e]3 - The type and quality of the sugarcane
[e]4 - The yeast strains used during the fermentation
[e]5 - The distillation methods applied
[e]6 - Tropical ageing
[e]7 - Blending
[e]8 - Filtration

No one element is more important than another and each element adds a unique distinctive characteristic to the blend.

Elements 8 is available in Platinum (white) and Gold varieties, and sets the standard for the 'super premium' rum category. It’s produced in the Windward Island of St. Lucia using premium molasses from sugar cane grown on the Guyanas coastal plains. The soil on these plains is laden with minerals carried up by ocean currents from the mouth of the Amazon river, creating a fertile environment that maximises the cane’s sugar production.

The cane is hand selected and allowed to ripen to perfection before it is hand harvested. This ensures that the cane has optimum sugar levels, does not get damaged during harvest and retains all of its sweet sugar juice, from which the molasses - the base ingredient for luxury rum - is obtained.

Water that naturally filters as it trickles through miles of government protected, impeccable rain-forest land and underground volcanic rock formations is used to craft the rums. This is combined with the molasses and three natural strains of yeast to convert the sugar into alcohol. The alcohol is then concentrated using three different distillation methods, before it is aged in premium Bourbon barrels.

The Platinum rum is aged for four years and the Gold for six years. Rums aged in St. Lucia mature three times faster than in colder climates - a phenomenon know as 'tropical ageing' - resulting in greater flavour development and a smoother taste. The master blender then hand blends them together - a very expensive and highly complex process that is both a science and an art form, but vital to ensure quality and consistency. They then undergo a final filtration process to ensure their purity.

This unique and complex production process renders the rums exceptionally smooth and complex and imparts in them unique flavours and characteristics. Because of this, we use these rums in several of our cocktails here at AKA, such as the classic Daiquiri. If you want to experience the difference, ask our experienced bar team to make you a Deluxe Mojito using Elements 8 Gold and taste why this rum takes the drink to the next level.
