Launching on Tuesday 7th June, Flashlights is a photographic exhibition featuring work by Dosfoto's Elio Stolz and Ruth Segarra. Their series of bold, beautiful photos capture the electric essence of live music performance and weave together elements of urban art and graffiti with stunning results.
Now London based, Elio Stolz's roots are planted in his native Brazil . Growing up enchanted by photography, Elio started out as a photo journalist, moving on to document live music gigs in Brazil, his striking images spurred him on to make his way to London where he immersed himself in London's vibrant music scene.
His photographs are exquisitely crafted, showing his amazing ability to capture the artist at just the right moment. Nothing is contrived about Elio's work; his participants barely know he is there and as such he freezes fleeting moments which make the unlikeliest subjects appear beautiful. His photographs feature superb composition, with an incredible interplay of bright flashing lights and deep pools of inky black. A star to look out for, Elio truly is a photographer with the X-factor.
Similarly, Spanish born Ruth Segarra is a name to watch. Having combined her passion for music and photography for over five years, she approaches her work with respect and curiosity. Her gift is apparent in her arresting images of musicians in mid-flow, capturing simply her subjects' passion for their art in series of stunning photographs.
Working under the umbrella name of Dosfotos, both Elio and Ruth have covered numerous concerts, festivals and club nights, and have collaborated with music media and artists in Brazil, Barcelona and London. Their work has caught the eye of many magazine and website editors and has appeared in magazines such as Vogue Brazil and The Big Issue.
